Up in the air: How to travel in style? Find out the must-haves of a few of Canada's globetrotting fashion set.

Alexandra Weston
A regular in society pages, Weston, cofounder of PR firm ASC (whose clients have include Andy Thê-Anh and Paul Hardy Designs) is always on the move. We interviewed her as she was en-route to Utah to check out the new Amangiri Resort Hotel; a anniversary celebration with her hubbie Galen Weston having litereally just returned from a trip Beijing and Hanoi where she'd caught up with her younger and older brothers.

Above all else, Weston's camera is a travel must. Three of her other essentials:

Holistica Lip Fix: It's to die for. I try really hard to use products that are chemical free, good for me, and good for the environment; this is a great line that does that. I have been even more careful since the baby was born?I hate the idea of putting something chemical or harsh on my skin and then giving him a cuddle and irritating the skin.

Holistica Triple Amino Gel: It doubles as moisturizer!

A large scarf (preferably cashmere): It's chic, great as a pillow cover, neck warmer, extra blanket (for me or the baby) and is a practical part of your wardrobe upon arrival. I live in scarves!

Store of the Week: 889 Yonge.   Andrew Sardone

When sisters Christine and Emily Russell opened 889 Yonge two years ago, the eco movement was just starting. The Rosedale spa, yoga studio and lifestyle boutique beat the green rush, incorporating sustainable materials into the building's design and adding holistic medicine and eco products into its mix.

Spot earth-friendly buys in the ground-floor retail space by looking for hangers tied with green ribbons. They mark clothing by Stewart + Brown, Loomstate and Prairie Underground, PVC-free yoga mats from Jade Harmony, Hanky Pankies organic cotton underwear and Holistica, Astara and Priti all-natural skin care and makeup.

The eco philosophy extends to the spa's facials and body treatments and a full schedule of yoga classes ranging from meditative guided flow to intense Ashtanga and Budokon.

Holistica Skincare, Created in Austria over 45 years ago, Holistica Skin Care was brought to Canada and originally sourced at the Bioderma Beauty Centre (one of the original spas of Toronto) and later at select spas across North America.

Offering a wide range of skincare products for a variety of skin types - normal to oily, normal to dry, sensitive, acne, blemished, pre-mature and mature skin, Holistica Skin Care has kept to its original focus on natural ingredients, hydration and plant extracts that are soothing.

All products are free of preservatives, synthetics, fragrance, colour and animal by-products. Formulated with homepathic principles, Holistica skin care seeks out natural extracts, enzymes, vitamins, minerals and essential oils for its unique products.

Holistica has encouraged the return of the facial mask with its Bio-Hydra Cream Mask. With carrot oil, cucumber extract, collagen and wheat germ, this mask hydrates and calms skin. Perfect for those who spend too much time in air conditioning (which dries out skin) and then in harsh weather (sun, wind). Perfect to apply before a soak in the tub as a weekly treatment to keep skin moisturized.

THE BEST PRACTICES AND INGREDIENTS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE

Facials are not a "one-size-fits-all" type of treatment. Like face wash or moisturizer, a facial treatment is specific to one's skin type. "We suggest that each area, or zone of the face, is treated separately, as different areas of the face will have different concerns," says Danielle Edwards, education manager for Dermalogica Canada.

Before getting any sort of treatment done it is important to not exfoliate your skin, which allows your esthetician or professional skin therapist to maximize your exfoliation treatment. Afterwards, be sure to protect your new found face with sunscreen while drinking water to aid in toxic elimination. If you're unsure of how to care for your skin before or after, be sure to ask when booking your appointment.

Here are the major skin types and ingredients that work best for each:

DRY
Products used during a facial treatment for dry or dry areas of the skin need to moisturize and protect the skin with emollients in order to keep the skin soft, supple and help the skin retain moisture. Pauline Bakowski, holistic skin therapist at 889 Yonge, suggests, "products with Vitamins A and E can be used to aid in healing, regenerating and smoothing the skin."

SENSITIVE
"Sensitive skin should be treated to a facial that is gentle and not too stimulating," says Bakowski. Basic elements, such as water, should be warm, not too hot, and steam should be minimal. Soothing ingredients such as azulen, which is oil derived from chamomile and often has a blue hue, would be ideal in products for sensitive skin.

AGING
The ingredients used during a treatment for aging skin is of the utmost importance. Collagen and elastin help retain the skin's elasticity and slows the aging process. Vitamin A exfoliates and smooths the skin and stimulates rejuvenation, while Vitamin C aids collagen synthesis and Vitamin E helps to heal.

BLEMISHED
Blemishes on skin can be treated using a spot treatment with antiseptic ingredients such as camphor and tea tree oil, which helps to reduce them quickly.

COMBINATION AND OILY
Products used on combination or oily skin will have lighter formulations and ingredients acting to hydrate and replenish moisture. These treatments often focus on tightening pores and mattifying the skin.
